For many people who grew up on farms, there is an inherent pull to return home should they ever leave a life in farming. Farmer Trent Tebbe of Three Monkeys Farm is one such example.
After growing up on a grain farm in Indiana, Trent ventured out and spent a few years away, only to get the feeling that he needed to return to farming life.
Farmer Trent credits his family for teaching him how to farm, most notably his father, grandfather and uncle. Early on, Trent learned the importance of being resourceful, and developed an innate ability to solve problems.
It is part of the job that Trent relishes, as no two days are ever the same. “Part of the reason I like to be a farmer is because you get to solve lots of different problems, every day is a little different. One of the key things for being a farmer is you have to be able to fix things.”
Three Monkeys Farm specializes in winter grains like rye, wheat and barley. The work requires the use of all types of intricate equipment and machinery, with many moving parts. At any time, something can break down and requires an immediate fix. Luckily, Three Monkeys Farm has its own “Mr. Fix It” in Trent.
“I like to take the equipment and machines apart, see how they work, and then fix them and put them all back together again.”
Three Monkeys Farm is proud to be an organic grain farm – which is a rarity in the industry. This commitment to environmentally sound agricultural practices helps them produce a superior tasting product and the proof is in the flour, breads, and cakes they help produce.
Name brands like Deep Roots Milling, Foggy Mountain Pasta, and Gentle Harvest all use Three Monkeys Farm’s grains.
