Have you ever taken photos on a farm–or anywhere, for that matter–only to look at them later and feel they didn’t really capture the experience of being there?
A farm can be a rich environment to photograph, but it’s not without its challenges. How do you best capture the essence of a farm? How do you show off its landscape, its variety of vegetables, its animal life, and the people who work the farm?
Come spend a day learning some essential concepts of photography (such as light, composition, depth of field) and how to apply them specifically to farm photography. You’ll have lots of time to practice shooting on a family farm in Loudoun County, VA, and get one-on-one feedback with the instructor.
This workshop is suitable for all experience levels, using your digital camera or iPhone. No matter how long we’ve been making photos, we are all creatively and technically a work in progress, with room to grow.
The workshop will begin classroom style, then you will be free to wander the lovely 17 acres to make photographs of the landscape, the chickens and the pigs, the barn, to set up your own still life, or whatever appeals to you. We will come together for a real-food supper sourced entirely from sustainable farms in the immediate area. Then there will be time for discussion, questions and sharing of photographs.
You will go home with a new collection of photographs, increased confidence about your own picture-making abilities, and a happy belly.
