Groups of rising high school sophomores, juniors and seniors will be touring Loudoun County farms this summer. As part of the Leadership Loudoun Youth program, the Department of Economic Development arranged for the local teens to receive a crash course in the county’s agriculture.
The first group recently completed their tour, visiting four farms. They learned about topics including heirloom variety vegetables, sustainable & chemical-free production, biodiversity, the importance of crop and animal rotation, community supported agriculture programs, and the connections between eating and good health.
Farms visited were Moonfire Orchard, Moutoux Orchard, Butterfly Hill Farm and Fields of Athenry Farm. Photos are online from the the link below.
